Endless Perfection

We live in a society that upholds living an unrealistic life as the ultimate dream. To be seen, to be heard by any means necessary is the subconscious goal of many. Programmed to filter everything in order to present to others a clean final version of a picture perfect life. Can we even relate to the life we live virtually or the life we want others to believe we live? When will we grow tired of overly edited, filtered, airbrushed images? When will we grow tired of the endless aspiration of portraying a perfect life? Showcasing the perfect home, the perfect family, or a perfect Instagram feed? When will we be satisfied? Will it be after the 10,000th follower, like or comment? Why are we never full? We hunger for more, never satisfied.

At some point, we were programmed to be a part of a tiresome rat race to be the coolest, fittest, most popular and prettiest; not for our own sake but for the sake of others; to win the approval of everyone else but…ourselves. One day we can be so in love with something but the opinion or criticism of another can completely change our minds. We have become slaves. Slaves to materialism, perfectionism, and criticism. What has happened to us?

The Endless Cycle of Perfection, a life that many have made an agreement with, a covenant with. Funny thing is most of us ARE aware of this false paradigm but choose to accept it as reality. Many of us ARE aware that most people’s lives are not perfect but somehow we trick our minds into believing that it is. We even trick our own minds into believing that our lives are somehow perfect because we are more engaged and plugged into a false world, a matrix, than we are into the real world. How many marriages are in total chaos in the real world but presented as a beautiful union in another? How many families present perfect images online to portray a perfect connection but behind closed doors they barely speak to one another? We are so far removed from reality and engaged fully into the world of perfectionism.

Perfectionism can burden us with unrealistic expectations and because of this it can cloud our judgment and ability to see things clearly. We enter an endless cycle of trying to reach a certain standard, living a life of constant dissatisfaction. Many times this leaves no room for just slowing down, being present; learning to enjoy the moment. This allows us to tap into something beautiful, time will seemingly slow down; giving us the opportunity to engage our senses and truly feel what it means to truly live. Being present is so important. It is certainly a gift and an opportunity to discover things that really matter.

I encourage you to unplug from what ever false worlds you have been plugged into and step into just living in the moment, be present. Notice the birds chirping, the wind blowing against your skin, the trees budding, the flowers growing, the clouds moving, spend quality time with others, laugh, smile; take it all in, breathe it all in. For this is a gift. Slow down and enjoy every moment. Release the burden and pressure that society has placed on you. Be set free and truly live.
